KCAU-PASGR PedaL Training on Course Design, Facilitation and Innovative Assessment in a Blended Learning Environment.

The Center for Teaching and Learning Excellence in partnership with Partnership for African Social & Governance Research (PASGR) is conducting a 3 weeks PedaL Online Training on Course Design, Facilitation and Innovative Assessment in a Blended Learning Environment from 20th February to 10th March, 2023. In- person Training on the same will be every Friday starting  on 20th February, 2023 at Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD).
The training is led by the following PedaL Facilitators  (Pedagogical Leadership)

Signing of Memorandum of Understanding with PASGR

The Collaboration event was between KCA University and Partnership for African Social and Governance Research (PASGR) that was held at KCA University Block C Hall starting from 2.00pm. The theme of the event was: Transforming Pedagogy in African Universities. The areas of Collaboration are to conduct staff capacity development in higher education pedagogy through the Pedagogical Leadership in Africa (PedaL), to explore opportunities to implement collaborative post-graduate academic programmes in public policy, to provide research methods capacity strengthening for faculty and research students to undertake joint research and publications in areas of mutual interest, and to promote policy uptake. For purposes of this, the Collaboration Agreement terms are used synonymously. The collaboration came into effect on 4th October 2022 and shall remain in force for a period of five (5) years or till the end of the joint training/research project. Prof. Isaiah I.C Wakindiki – The Vice Chancellor & CEO KCA University together with Dr. Anthony Mveyange – The Executive Director, PASGR signed the MOU which was witnessed by Prof. Simon Ngigi – Director, Center for Teaching and Learning Excellence, PASGR Team, CTLE Committee Members, University Management, Deans, Chairs of Departments and Managers of KCA University. The event commenced with a Panel discussion in which the following Panelists participated;

  1. Prof. Isaiah I.C Wakindiki – The Vice Chancellor & CEO KCA University together with
  2. Dr. Anthony Mveyange – The Executive Director, PASGR
  3. Prof. Wanjira Kinuthia - Associate Professor of Instructional Design and Technology
  4. Prof. Nyokabi Kamau – Executive Director, Center for Parliamentary Studies and Training (CPST)
  5. Dr. Zipporah Okoth – Moderator 
The event was attended by our DVC - Academic Student Affairs Prof. Joshua Bagakas, DVC – Finance, Planning and Development Prof. Damiana Kieti, PASGR Team, KCA University Management, Deans, Chairs of Department and Managers among other invited guests.

Training on Effective Postgraduate Supervision

The training was held at the Kenya School of Monetary Studies (KSMS) and the target group was all lecturers teaching Masters and Ph.D. programmes. The objective of this workshop was to facilitate participants to acquire knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary for effective supervision of postgraduate students conducting research and writing theses.  The participants were set up in one cohort. By the end of the training, the participants were expected to have the knowledge to improve on how they relate with students doing their thesis by engaging them throughout their research. The training had on Day one 39 participants and on Day two 31 participants and the facilitators were Prof. Joshua Bagakas – DVC, Academic & Student Affairs and Prof. Khaemba Ongeti.

Effective Facilitation of PhD Classes

The training was conducted from the School of Business Board Room at 9.00 am. The training objective was to reflect on best practices and agree on a harmonized approach in facilitating Ph.D. classes at KCA University. The training was about sharing ideas on;

  • Flipped model
  • Case Studies
  • Seminars/Workshops
The training had 15 participants and was facilitated by Prof. Simon Ngigi – Director, Center for Teaching and Learning Excellence.
